This video piece, created collaboratively by Linn Nora Henz and Remy Ugarte Vallejos, unfolds as a diptych of scenes filmed simultaneously by the artists and projected in sync within a darkened space.
The film opens on a silent traffic scene: windshields reflecting the dazzling sun of a late July day. These muted images introduce an atmosphere of ambiguity that extends into a journey through the city, where body-mounted cameras persistently observe passing cars. While cars remain the central motif, they also become a means of decentering perception and reconsidering familiar urban dynamics. Within an ordinary cityscape, the film stages an interplay between filming and filmed bodies, transforming vehicles into uncanny presences that appear to display personality, emotion, and social behavior, as if integrated into the urban environment like creatures within a shared habitat.
Balancing irony, nostalgia, and strangeness, the film reflects on the structures of the capitalist machine while searching within them for traces of empathy. Exterior split-screen views alternate with interior perspectives seemingly guided by the moving car itself. Through this simultaneous multiplicity of viewpoints, the artists emphasize film’s capacity to capture movement and shared temporality in a performative way. The installation foregrounds the boundary between the two frames: a thin line that both joins and separates, holding the tension of a shared present.
Presented on November 20, 2025 at HALMET, the work was accompanied by a reading of texts by the artists. The video is now made available online accompanied with documentation of their installation.
